Just some thoughts and ideas going around in my head while trying to figure out where I am and where everyone else is going.

Reality TV that you can't find in the States

Did you know that CBS was still fighting the fine that they were charged with by the FCC for showing Janet Jackson's titty during the Superbowl?

I am always amazed by the amount of things that people can put on TV in other countries that would bring about the destruction of civilization in the US as well as the wrath of God if the same things were shown here. I long for the day when people can be a little less puritanical here and perhaps a little more accepting of the way people really are.

Also, I'm always surprised by the amount of artists who will not even do a TV commercial in America because they believe it may demean their careers but will at the slip of a hat shake it all loose and show daddy's little dividend just because they have crossed the borders.

Take Sisqo for example on Britain's Big Brother. Can you really see him doing that here? Would you like to see him do that here?

  1. I totally agree, especially when you see people are shown getting wasted and fighting (with beeped cursing, of course), but all that lack of class and all that lack of (self-)respect seem more acceptable than pure nudity or sex.

Besides, all that supposed control doesn't make the States less crowded with perverts than any other nation. But of course, this is Euro trash talking LOL

  2. I agree with your post....other cultures are more open ...the thing is with the USA you have all these watch dog groups and they would like to see something done so they can say they did it.

  3. You know Curious I agree. I think that Americans tend to be the most hypocritical. We scream freedom of speech from the rooftops while quietly trying to regulate that same freedom in the shadows when it doesn't match our morale agenda.

I think that we put too much responsibility on society as a whole to raise our children. They are the biggest weapons used by the censors. I figure I am a good enough parent to override or at least minimize the effect of poor choices on television. At the end of the day I have the power to turn it off or change the channel.

As to Sisqo... Ummm no I would prefer to never see him in that get up. But isn't that wonderful thing about being grown & free? I can choose not to watch it. Funny how that works.

  4. Eduardo - It's always seems so strange to me that to see the pretend violence of the crime shows or Jerry Springer is so much more acceptable to the American public than some one showing a bit a flesh which everyone has. And you are right, the country as a whole has very little positive to show for it.

corvedacosta - Self-aggrandizement? The act of making oneself more important than others by showing them how inferior they are. I hadn't thought about it that way.

Ingrid - Actually after seeing Borat wear the same thing, I'm not sure that I would want to see anyone else wear that. But I would applaud Sisqo or anyone for feeling free enough to accept who they are and not be afraid to show that we all look alike except for minor differences and there is nothing to be ashamed of for that.

  5. It appears we got shyte backwards here in These United States; I can tune into cartoons that are so explict and shown during prime time, watch back of the woods folks fight over baby mama drama or incest, but I can't see a grown man naked or same sex couple on television here in the States. That is why I tune into British TV or Telly.

Oh yeah, your boi Sisqo has a nice arse.

  6. Chet - Don't let anyone else know, but about Sisqo's behind, I agree with you.

  7. I agree USA is hypocratic when it comes to entertainment. We can sing about screwing and how I'm gonna eat your uh oh and this and that, but when it comes to showing skin or other views of sex omg it is just so puritanical. I have watched channels from other countries and they are more liberal on their primetime shows that we are here. What gives? We are the FREE USA so why can't we be more liberal with tv?

  8. ♫Hershey's Kiss♫ - Even though I know that numbers can be manipulated to come out and support or refute anything that you want, I have never heard anyone deny the fact that there are less reports of sexual abuse and molestation in other industrialized countries where they are freer in their public entertainment. I for one would prefer to see a woman shake her titties or a man show his short comings on TV than read in the paper about another woman or child being targeted and raped.
