Just some thoughts and ideas going around in my head while trying to figure out where I am and where everyone else is going.

Say it ain't so Joe

I wish I could embed the video that I want here, but Oprah didn’t become a billionaire by giving stuff away for nothing. So you will have to follow the link or watch the fuzzy bootleg Youtube version below and go to the 6 minute mark to know exactly what I’m trying to say. Although I’m sure that there are a lot of people who will have already seen it and come to their own conclusions.

Sometime last week I was watching a repeat broadcast of the Oprah Winfrey Show, the one that had Michael Jackson’s children in it. Funny how that still makes me chuckle inside thinking about the blood lines must work in the Jackson family. But I was watching the show, I suspect the same way most men watch Oprah with half a mind focused on something diametrically opposed to whatever she is harping on about, when I thought I heard old Papa Joe Jackson say that he had beaten his children and how proud he was of it. He thought that he had done a good job because other people’s children who hadn’t experienced his form of discipline had ended up in jail, or on drugs, or even dead.

Since it was just me and the TV in the room the only thing I could do was ask myself, “…er did he forget Michael?”

  1. Hmm, I have to say that Joe Jackson's behaviour has been so distrubing for so long that it's almost a relief his kids did become famous. Could you imagine how much longer the abuse would have gone on for otherwise?

  2. Yeah, I obviously don't know him but he isn't the type of guy (or role model for that matter) I would want around my children. 'Course I don't have kids so I suppose it isn't really an issue for me, but you get what I'm saying.

  3. Joe Jackson sickens me. He is the typical abuser. He takes no responsibility for his own actions (particularly how he messed up Michael and the rest of his children). True, none of them went to prison...But at what cost? Did he have selective memory when it came to Mike?

  4. TheatreMad87 - I don't really know what would happened if the Jackson 5 had just turned out to be Joe's boys who lived at the end of the street. What gets to me is how Joe can fool himself into thinking that he created a successful and happy home life for people who he thinks are so much better than his neighbors.

BosGuy - Really, whether Joe Jackson ever abused his children or not really isn't an issue for me. What troubles me is that he can say with a straight face that his children are more balanced and more well adjusted than others because of his actions and yet he fails to see the realities of how his children turned out and what has actually happened to them.

  5. Mr. Toddy English - Michael may not have gone to jail but he had his mug shot and dick shot taken by the police and that's just as bad. Yes you are right, it's the selctive memory of Pop's that really gets to me.

  6. I too chuckle at the thought of the Jackson blood line, the thought that two of the brothers were married to the same woman at different times and children born to both unions. Not to mention Michael's children.

Joe Jackson isn't that wise of a man, he would truly like to believe he is responsible for his children's success. He certainly put his foot in his mouth when he stated that if "he hadn't beat the children they would have been like other children that were not disciplined by the strap." He forgot that Michael did drugs and later took his own life as a result.

  7. Chet - Exactly. It's okay to be blind to the facts and live in your own fantasies because most of us do that at one time or another. But don't do it on national TV in front of millions because it just makes you look like something even less than stupid.
